'Virat Kohli made a mistake in...': Virender Sehwag's blunt take on ‘slowest century’ of IPL history

In the clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur, Virat Kohli's outstanding century was a standout performance amidst RCB's batting struggles. Kohli's unbeaten 113 runs came off 67 balls, marking his 8th IPL century. However, despite his remarkable innings, criticism arose over his strike rate and the lack of support from other RCB batters.

Virender Sehwag's Analysis:

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag weighed in on the match, acknowledging Kohli's brilliance but highlighting the need for an improved strike rate, especially after reaching his half-century. Sehwag pointed out that Kohli's strike rate should have increased significantly, considering his initial scoring rate. He emphasized that while Kohli's role is to anchor the innings, the pressure on him was intensified due to the failure of other RCB batters to contribute significantly.

Sehwag criticized the RCB management for relying too heavily on Kohli and failing to provide adequate support through the rest of the batting lineup. He highlighted the absence of big hitters like Karthik and the underperformance of other expensive acquisitions like Maxwell and Green, which added to the burden on Kohli.

Mohammed Shami's Perspective:

Echoing Sehwag's sentiments, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami questioned RCB's strategy of relying solely on Kohli to carry the batting lineup. Shami emphasized that while Kohli has consistently performed for both the Indian team and RCB, it is unfair to expect him to shoulder the entire burden of the batting unit.

Shami stressed the importance of other RCB batters stepping up and contributing effectively to alleviate the pressure on Kohli. He highlighted the need for a collective effort from the batting lineup to support Kohli and ensure the team's success in the IPL 2024 tournament.

Despite Kohli's stellar century, RCB's batting woes and overreliance on their captain have come under scrutiny. As the IPL 2024 season progresses, RCB will need to address their batting issues and ensure a more balanced and cohesive performance from the entire team to achieve success in the tournament.
